DRIVING FROM SACRAMENTO:
Highway 80 South, to Highway 37 West toward San Rafael, then Highway 101 South across Golden Gate Bridge.
DRIVING FROM GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE:
the San Francisco side, take the 19th Avenue exit, and drive south
through Golden Gate Park. Continue about two miles south on 19th Avenue
to Sloat Boulevard (after Wawona). Turn right onto Sloat, drive about
two miles, and at 46th Avenue, turn right and go one block to Wawona.
DRIVING FROM EAST BAY BRIDGE:
the San Francisco side, take Highway 101 south, then Highway 280 toward
Daly City. Exit straight onto Monterey Boulevard for exactly two miles,
to the 1600 block of Monterey. Continue straight one block on Santa
Clara, then turn left onto St. Francis. Continue straight onto Sloat,
and at 46th Avenue, turn right and go one block to Wawona.
DRIVING FROM SF AIRPORT (20-25 min):
Go west on Highway 380, then north on Highway 280. (After
a few miles, take care not to inadvertently exit on the right with
Highway 280 going downtown.) Follow directions to Highway One, toward
19th Avenue. The freeway gradually ends with four lanes entering the
city. Just beyond a small foot-bridge overpass is SF's first stoplight,
with a Chevron station in the middle of a "Y" intersection. Two lanes go
left onto 19th Avenue — instead, stay right because 19th Avenue doesn't
allow left turns. Be in one of the two right lanes, driving straight
onto Junipero Serra. Continue three more stoplights to Sloat Boulevard
then turn left. Take Sloat to 46th Avenue and turn right one block to
SFO AIRPORT OPTIONS:
VANS: The company we recommend is the blue, "Super Shuttle"service.
Be sure to tell the representative you want a Sunset/Richmond van rather
than a Downtown van. They leave from the upper terminal area, above luggage pickup, at the traffic island. $17 per person, under 3 free.
For one person, shuttles are the best deal, and for two or more, we
recommend a taxi, about $40, from the lower level at the traffic
island. Cab drivers who approach you are illegal.
Bay Area Rapid Transit is a time-consuming option from SFO. Take BART
to Glen Park Station ($5). Cross the street on Diamond and wait in front
of the delicatessen at Bosworth and Diamond. Take the #23 Monterey bus
to 46th Avenue and Wawona ($1.50). Note: For BART elevator status, call

AROUND TOWN WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: (Info 415 701-2311)
our door, the L-Taraval Streetcar runs about every 15 minutes or so to
the end of Market Street, near the Ferry Building ($1.50). At Powell and
Market, The SF Visitors Center offers a terrific deal on inexpensive
passes that include cable cars — which otherwise would be $5 per person
one-way. From Powell Street, the L-Taraval stops at Montgomery, with
Chinatown's gate several blocks away, on Grant Avenue. (Alternatively,
the 15-Stockton bus at Montgomery goes through Chinatown and arrives in
the North Beach area.) Finally, the L-Taraval streetcar ends at the
Eastbay Terminal — a few minutes' walk to the Ferry Building, with its
gourmet shops, restaurants, and Sausalito ferry terminal. For Pier 39,
Fisherman's Wharf, and Pier 41's Bay Cruise tours, transfer on Market
Street to the historic F streetcar line.
at our door is the #18 bus that travels north, parallel to the ocean.
For Golden Gate Park attractions, transfer to the N-Judah streetcar,
which goes to 9th Avenue and Irving, very close to the DeYoung Museum,
Academy of Science, and Japanese Tea Garden. The #18 bus travels south
to Stonestown Shopping Center. For San Francisco State University, exit
at 19th Avenue and Buckingham Way and walk a few blocks to 19th Avenue
and Holloway. The #18 bus continues on Monterey Boulevard past Manuso's
Yoga Abode and the Glen Park BART station.

the L-Taraval streetcar to 19th and Taraval. Transfer to the northbound

at Fort Mason. Take the steep stairs at the rear of the Fort Mason
parking lot up to the park. Follow the broad, paved trail east along a
scenic path, down the hill to Ghiradelli Sqare, the Cannery, and
